JAKARTA - The Grand Imam of the Istiqlal Mosque, Nasaruddin Umar, assessed that the massive use of identity politics in the 2019 General Election will decrease in the 2024 General Election.

"God willing, if I imagined, it (the use of identity politics) would subside," Nasaruddin said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, May 19.

According to him, the use of identity politics, especially related to religion, can be reduced in the 2024 election because at this time the Indonesian people have better maturity in religion and politics.

"Religious maturity, maturity in politics in Indonesian society is getting better. Just look at it, different political parties, but can eat together, can pay each other," he said.

Previously, Nasaruddin Umar said that after holding an audience, a number of religious leaders from the upper religious assemblies and the Indonesian KPU agreed to cooperate in making efforts so that the 2024 General Election would not interfere with the harmony or harmony between believers in the country.

"This is a new tradition that we will do, the cooperation between the upper house of religion and the KPU. I think this has never been done before, how so that religious emotions are not involved too far to fight for a short-term interest. He explained.

To follow up on the cooperation agreement, Nasaruddin said that in the future religious leaders would give directions to members of religious assemblies at the regional level to invite the public not to involve religious emotions in the 2024 election.

"Don't wait until later, only for a moment's interests, involving religious emotions is not in place," said Nasaruddin.

In addition, he continued, religious leaders will also be willing to help the KPU to remind election participants not to use places of worship as a means of campaigning.

Nasaruddin also invited all parties to participate in democratic parties without injuring inter-community brotherhood.
