DENPASAR - Denpasar City Police, Bali, revealed the results of an investigation into the deaths of two foreign nationals from China, namely Li Chiming (24) and Cheng Jianan (22) at the Intercontinental Hotel, Jimbaran, South Kuta, Badung, in early May 2023.

Denpasar Police Chief Kombes Bambang Yugo Pamungkas explained that Chinese foreigners LC (males) are strongly suspected of committing the crime of murder of CJ (female) after the police collected statements from a number of witnesses, autopsy results from forensic experts, surveillance camera (CCTV) examination, and crime scene (TKP).

"From the crime scene and several inputs that the CJ concerned was allegedly abused and killed by the LC. Then after that, judging from the crime scene processing, all the blood samples were the same. Then the results of the autopsy, examination of witnesses and CCTV, that LC died of suicide," said Bambang Yugo as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 17.

This was also reinforced by the autopsy results of the two bodies of the victims carried out by two forensic experts at the Sanglah Central General Hospital or Prof. Ngoerah Denpasar and officers for the Forensic Laboratory of the Bali Regional Police.

After conducting a series of examinations of 31 witnesses and checking CCTV on three places where the two victims had lived, especially where the two were found dead, the police concluded that no other party should be suspected of being involved in the deaths of the two foreigners.

Bambang explained that when both were found dead on May 1, 2023, it was confirmed that no other party entered the room used by the two Chinese foreigners to stay overnight, apart from a hotel clerk who delivered the drink orders that the two foreigners had previously requested.

"In CCTV, both in front of the room, the back environment at the time after the two, LC and CJ (in the room) there was only one (person) after they ordered a room service, namely five bottles of beer and delivered at 01.15 WITA. After that, no one entered at all," said the Chief of Police.

Furthermore, from the results of the examination of the roommaid witness, who paid for the drink order was a female CJ victim, while the LC was in the room at that time.

Then, Bambang added, the results of the CCTV inspection shortly after that, until the morning 07.40 WITA, no one passed by or entered the room until both of them were found not wearing clothes together. CJ's victim was found dead in the bathtub of the bathroom, while the LC was found dead in the hotel corridor.

The police are currently developing the motive for the murder carried out by the LC. However, based on the testimony of witnesses from the hotel and CCTV footage where the two of them had stayed, LC was once involved in an argument with CJ.

The police chief added that the two Chinese foreigners initially arrived in Bali via I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Badung, and stayed at the Hyatt Regensi Sanur Hotel from 27 April to 2 May 2023.

However, over time, on April 29, 2023, LC moved to the Mansion Hotel, Sanur, Denpasar, due to problems with CJ. The police do not know for sure the exact problem, but are strongly suspected of being the motive for the murder by the LC against CJ.

"The motive for the deaths of the two foreigners with the initials LC and CJ was due to personal problems, resulting in the death of the person concerned," said Kombes Bambang.

Based on the results of witness examinations and inspection of travel routes, Bambang added, while staying at the Hyatt Regency Sanur hotel, Denpasar, both of them were involved in an argument.

In addition to CCTV evidence, crime scene processing and witnesses, the Denpasar Police have also asked permission from the victim's family through the Chinese Consulate to conduct an autopsy.

According to the Chief of Police, the results of the autopsy conducted by the forensic doctor at Sanglah Hospital and the Bali Police Labfor also corroborate evidence that there were a series of violent incidents by LC against their partners.
