TANJUNG CELLOR - Nunukan Regent, North Kalimantan (Kaltara), Asmin Laura said the BMKG data describes the dry season since February 2023 until now has caused the PDAM reservoirs in Nunukan to begin to dry up.

"To deal with the water drought that hit Nunukan Island, we with forkopimda and related agencies will formulate several solutions," said the Regent of Nunukan, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 10.

He said there are several short, medium and long-term solutions.

In the short term, the Nunukan Regency Government built several bore wells, both in densely populated areas and difficult to reach by cars and at several points of water sources scattered on Nunukan Island.

The medium-term solution will be carried out by drilling sufficient depth with the company's corporate social responsibility or CSR scheme. In the near future, the Regent of Nunukan will invite the CSR forum to discuss the regional government's plan.

Laura said that with the CSR pattern of drilling with a very deep depth to water point sources, companies such as the mining sector are very likely to do because they have adequate equipment and technology.

"Of course, later there will be two consequences when successful, it will produce abundant water, the second is if it doesn't work, it will use the APBD later," he said.

Long-term solutions use reservoirs. However, to maximize the reservoir, it is necessary to immediately follow the handling steps through dredging sedimentation and requires sufficient budget.

The Regent of Nunukan said that he had asked the Regional Secretary of Nunukan Regency to directly lead the OPD regarding preparing all technical and administrative matters.

"In the sense that when this involves the interests of many people, forkopimda is ready to issue several policies or our powers, because forkopimda has its own laws and regulations," said Laura.

Laura also plans to provide shelter tanks and water pumps in areas that are considered urgent.
