JAKARTA - Russia is grateful and appreciates the many leaders of countries that are members of the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States), who will attend the Victory Day (Day of Victory) commemoration held by Russia on Tuesday, a Kremlin spokesman said in an interview with TV channel Rossiya-1.

"May 9 remains one of the most important holidays for the people of the former Soviet Union, and many CIS member countries consider it a holy day to be celebrated," he said as reported by TASS on May 9.

"And, of course, we thank the guests who have been pleased to attend with our president today and with us," continued Peskov.

According to Peskov, the Victory Day parade will be attended by leaders of CIS countries.

Previously, Belarusian Presidents Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan had confirmed their presence. Likewise with the Prime Minister of Armenia. According to diplomatic sources, Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedov will also attend parades in Moscow.

As previously reported, Peskov said the Russian government took every possible step to ensure security during the Victory Day parade on May 9.

"All necessary steps are being taken to ensure security, especially when foreign guests, our heads of state will attend. Everything that is required by law is being carried out for it," Peskov said.
