The Executive Board of the Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI) emphasized the neutrality of its staff in facing the 2024 General Election by not entering the realm of practical politics.

"We will maintain neutrality," said PB PGRI General Chair Prof. Dr. Unifah Rosyidi in Semarang as reported by ANTARA, Sunday, May 7.

He admitted that quite a number of PGRI members wanted to run for members of the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD), both districts/cities and provinces and the DPR.

"If the DPR, DPRD, there are quite a lot, and they are given the opportunity to leave, if they are elected, they will no longer be at PGRI. However, they must bring the'spirite' struggle," said Unifah asserted.

Regarding the DPD, Unifah supports the results of the Central Java PGRI Provincial Working Conference which mandates the Chairman of PGRI Central Java, Dr. Muhdi, to run as a candidate for DPD members representing the province.

"Because we don't go into practical politics, we want to fight at the 'policy' level, and that's important," he said.

He expressed his sense of organizational pride because there are figures who can represent the interests of teachers at the government policy level, namely through the senator or DPD route.

"Therefore, we have Mr. Muhdi which was decided by organization to represent the aspirations of friends, but on non-party channels," explained Unifah.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of PGRI Central Java, Muhdi, said that PGRI has always been consistent with continuing to be solemn in education, teachers, and the interests of the community so that it will always be supported.

"If there are many candidates. PGRI, let's say that what I am now tasked with leaving is not because of personal interests. I left because of the common interest. So, it is borne together by my friends," he said.

Regarding the registration time as a candidate for DPD member, Muhdi has not confirmed so far, but if at any time it will definitely register.

"And for me, for example, now it is nominated, God willing, in time it will register. Bismillah, carry out the commitment of friends so that they have a forum or space that can be used to fight for PGRI's ideals," he said.
