Commission IX Calls The Persecution Of Health Workers A Non-Human Action, Supports The Legal Process

JAKARTA - Commission IX of the DPR RI regrets the acts of violence committed by patients and their families to 2 interns in West Lampung Regency. The DPR Commission in charge of health affairs also supports the legal steps taken by the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes).

"This incident is very inhumane. We deeply regret and regret this incident," said Member of Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Rahmad Handoyo, Friday, April 28.

Incidents of abuse by patients against 2 young doctors occurred at the Fajar Bulan Health Center, Way Tenong District, West Lampung, right on Eid al-Fitr, Saturday (22/4). The incident began because of the patient's dissatisfaction with the doctor's services for complaints of pain in his heart.

The doctor has appealed to the patient to immediately go to the nearest hospital emergency room if he is not strong enough to endure pain. However, when he was given an explanation, the patient and his family actually abused the doctor by dragging, strangling, and slamming him to the floor.

Video footage of the incident has gone viral on social media. Rahmad criticized the actions taken by the perpetrators, especially when it was carried out on health workers (nakes) who were tasked with providing services to the community.

"This is already a criminal realm, because of the form of persecution. Whatever the reason, persecution is very unjustified. Perpetrators must be held accountable before the law," he said.

Therefore, Rahmad supports the Ministry of Health's decision to take this matter to court. Commission IX of the DPR RI also ensures that it is ready to oversee this case until it is finished.

"The general public only gets abused, the perpetrators must be thoroughly investigated. Moreover, health workers who incidentally have struggled under their promise to help patients sincerely and sincerely, optimally with all the risks," said Rahmad.

Commission IX of the DPR also appreciated the Ministry of Health for providing legal assistance to 2 interns for victims of abuse and ensuring their safety. According to Rahmad, the Ministry of Health's steps were correct.

"Nakes must indeed receive legal protection. So that the Government, in this case the Ministry of Health, must oversee this case. Investigate clearly," said the legislator from the Central Java electoral district.

Commission IX of the DPR also encouraged the Police to thoroughly investigate the incident against the health workers. The DPR also invites the public to take lessons from this incident.

"It must be a lesson for all, because anyone who plays with violence will face the law," concluded Rahmad.
