Eid Al-Fitr 2023 In Malaysia Will Be Celebrated On Saturday 22 April

JAKARTA - Muslims in Malaysia will celebrate Eid al-Fitr 1444 Hijri on Saturday, April 22, 2023.

The announcement was made by the Malaysian King Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad through a live broadcast of one of the Malaysian television stations which was followed by Kuala Lumpur, Thursday.

"In accordance with the order of Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, after being approved by His Majesty the Kings, I hereby declare that the date of Fasting Day has been set on Saturday, April 22, 2023," he said as reported by Antara.

Thus, as Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim previously announced, Friday (21/4), is an additional holiday. People in Malaysia will get four holidays, namely from Friday to Monday (24/4).

The determination of the date of Eid al-Fitr in Malaysia is based on efforts to see a new moon throughout the country after the sun sets today. If not seen, fasting for the month of Ramadan will be completed by 30 days.

Efforts to see the hilal have been carried out supervised by the lunar appearance committee and chaired by the mufti of each state.

In addition, efforts to see the new moon were also assisted by experts from the Malaysian Department of Survey and Mapping.
