JAKARTA - Komentrian Komunikasi dan Informatika (Kemenkominfo) mengatakan sebanyak 74 persen masyarakat Indonesia telah beralih ke televisi (TV) digital.

The Ministry of Communication and Information, citing the results of a Nielsen survey as of April 15, 2023, said Palembang, Bali, Banjarmasin, and 11 other cities had approached 90 percent of the switch from analog to digital TV.

"Java is normal towards 100 percent and the multiplier effect on national digital TV penetration has reached 74 percent," said Geryantika Kurnia, Director of Broadcasting at the Ministry of Communication and Information, quoted from Antara, Monday.

Geryantika said that there are two big cities, namely Medan and Makassar, which will also immediately make a switch to digital TV or Analog Switch Off (ASO) in May 2023.

The number of digital TV top box (STB) distributions for poor households in North Sumatra 1 (Medan and its surroundings) has reached 95,025 units and South Sulawesi 1 (Makassar and its surroundings) 39,982 units.

Although the distribution of STB will be hampered by the Lebaran holiday, Gery targets STB distribution to be able to reach 90 percent in May 2023.STB is a tool for converting signals into digital TV images and sounds so that they can be displayed on analog TV.

Geryantika said the multiplexing device (MUX) infrastructure had been built by TVRI and the private sector in 341 districts/cities affected by ASO, where previously people watched analog TV via free broadcasts.

"584 TV broadcasts have been broadcast digitally and there are 103 analog broadcasts that are currently in the process of migrating to digital TV so that people throughout Indonesia can enjoy digital TV broadcasts, and analog broadcasts are increasingly being abandoned," said Geryantika.

He appealed to all people in Indonesia, including Medan and Makassar to immediately prepare STB so that they can receive digital TV broadcasts, which are more sophisticated, as well as clear pictures and sounds.

Meanwhile, for MUX organizers, the Ministry of Communication and Information appeals to improve digital TV signals without waiting for ASO so that it is easier for people to receive digital TV broadcasts.

"For TV stations, continue to socialize to the public to switch to digital TV, including STB and TV producers, to provide it at affordable and easy to obtain throughout Indonesia," said Geryantika.
