JAKARTA - Head of the National Narcotics Agency of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Brigadier General Pol MZ Muttaqien, said that the BNN of the Republic of Indonesia together with a number of ASEAN countries optimize surveillance and eradication of international inter-island drug networks in ASEAN member countries.

"This is a joint effort to prevent drug entry in the archipelago, bordering in ASEAN countries, especially Indonesia," said Brigadier General Pol MZ Muttaqien, quoting Antara, Sunday, April 9.

He said the BNN of the Republic of Indonesia cooperated with ASEAN and Interpol by prioritizing the Directorate of BNN and provincial BNN Interdiction on state borders together with the TNI, Polri, Customs and Excise to prevent drug entry in the territory of the Republic of Indonesia, especially border areas.

"Babel is an archipelago province with the potential for the entry of drugs from this international network," he said.

According to him, this collaboration with a number of ASEAN countries is a joint commitment to build a network of cooperation among ASEAN countries in the field of interdiction, especially airports interference, to break the illicit drug trafficking network.

"With this cooperation, of course, eradicating the national and international drug syndicate network by pursuing, stopping people, ships, airplanes or vehicles suspected of carrying narcotics will be more optimal," he said.

He added that in eradicating drugs, the Babel Islands BNNP optimized prevention, community empowerment and soft power approach rehabilitation strategies.

"Currently soft power approach is being intensified to prevent and eradicate drug trafficking," he said.

Bangka Belitung Islands Governor Suganda Pandapotan Pasaribu appreciated the BNN's prevention, community empowerment and rehabilitation strategy "soft power approach" to eradicate drugs.

"I fully support the implementation of the Presidential Instruction to jointly carry out the prevention and eradication of drugs towards Babel Bersinar," he said.
