Prevent Stunting, Padang Sidempuan City Government Distributes Hundreds Of Food Packages

PADANG SIDEMPUAN - Padang Sidempuan Mayor Irsan Efendi Nasution in Padang Sidempuan, Friday, said that there were around 2,400 stunting cases in Padang Sidempuan City.

"Today, according to existing data, in Sitamiang and Sitamiang Baru Villages, we distribute 102 additional packages of food. We hope that in the future our children in Padang Sidempuan will grow into a smart generation," he said.

The City Government of Padang Sidempuan, North Sumatra distributed hundreds of additional food packages for stunting prevention to the people of South Padang Sidempuan, which are coupled with iftar events together with local residents and continued with the Maghrib, Isya, and Tarawih prayers in congregation.

The provision of love is a program in the context of accelerating stunting reduction in the city of Padang Sidempuan. Stunting is a chronic nutrition problem due to malnutrition that occurs during the growth period of children.

"This can affect children's physical and cognitive growth, and can hinder their future development. Therefore, stunting prevention is one of the priorities in Padang Sidempuan City," he said.

Previously, regarding the stunting rate in North Sumatra, Governor Edy Rahmayadi said that the Provincial Government had taken a number of steps in terms of massive stunting handling since the last few years.

The North Sumatra Provincial Government has made various efforts, namely by strengthening activities to provide nutritious food intake to other assistance programs.

The condition after various efforts to accelerate stunting reduction by the North Sumatra Provincial Government showed a decrease in the prevalence rate by 4.7 percent, from 25.8 percent (2021) to 21.1 percent in 2022, based on the 2022 Indonesian nutritional status survey (SSGI).

"We are trying to solve this problem. There are several districts that still need stronger handling according to their potential. The handling of stunting continues to be pursued, both in terms of data collection and identifying health factors, as one of the triggers for the incomplete stunting prevention," said the governor.
