GORONTALO - Upomela Village in Bongomeme District, Gorontalo Province, was isolated due to the break of the Upomela bridge, on Saturday at around 19.11 WITA.

Upomela Village Head, Dasma Djafar said the Upomela bridge collapsed due to heavy rains that have continued to flush the area in the last two days, making the soil structure in the bridge buffer area fragile.

"We were shocked by the breakdown of this bridge. For the time being, the village was isolated due to this condition," said Dasma in Gorontalo, Saturday, March 2, as reported by Antara.

The village government immediately coordinated to make emergency efforts to overcome the breakdown of main road access to and from the village.

"Residents since before the tarawih prayer, were surprised by this condition. The bridge could not be passed by vehicles. Residents who forced to pass had to use an emergency ladder made of bamboo prepared by other residents," he said.

The plan is that on Sunday, March 2 morning, the village government together with residents will work together to build bridges to make emergency road access.

"The Upomela Bridge along approximately 6 meters was built for a long time," he said.

The Upomela Bridge, connecting the border between Upomela Village and Huntulohulawa Village, is heading to the central area of regional government.

Maryam, a resident of Upomela Village, said, for the time being, be patient with this condition considering that the bridge had broken completely.

"Residents who use their vehicles every day to carry out their activities outside the village, are forced to be patient waiting for repairs. We hope that the bridge will be repaired soon," he said.
