Sexual Predator Potentially Repeats His Actions, People Need To Be Alert

JAKARTA - Forensic Psychology Expert, Reza Indragiri Amriel reminded the public to be aware of the potential for sexual predators who will repeat their actions again after being released from punishment.

"Be aware. Within five years, about 10-15 percent of predators repeat their actions again. After 10 years, about 20 percent become recidivists. After 20 years, and around 30-40 percent prey on victims again," Reza said in a statement received by Antara in Jakarta, Wednesday.

Reza took the case of Andri Sobari alias Emon who was released from prison for the sodomy case of 120 children in Sukabumi, West Java.

According to him, Emon is classified as an intelligent actor. In carrying out the action, he has a detailed record of the victim's name, date, and location of the incident.

With this intelligence, he said, it is not easy to determine whether behavioral changes while in correctional institutions (prisons) are positive results of coaching or simply camouflage so that they are considered good.

"The figure regarding the above recidivistship shows the diversity of rehabilitation programs is decreasing over time," he said.

To prevent recurrence, said Reza, Indonesia needs to have a database of perpetrators and children who are victims of sexual crimes. The database of the perpetrators should be made open access so that the public can be vigilant.

"This is part of an effort to increase the collective power of war against the dangers of sexual crime," said Reza.

A simple step that can be taken by the community in preventing the recurrence of the Emon case, namely distributing photos and characteristics of predators and displaying them in areas visited by former predators.

The member of the Correctional Assessment Center, the Immigration Polytechnic (Poltekip) visited Emon at the Sukabumi Police a few years ago, remembering Emon's words, which wanted to be two, namely the dangdut singer's kiaidan.

"He told me when I visited him at the Sukabumi Police a number of years ago. Later I want to be two. Kiai and a dangdut singer," said Reza.

Andri Sobari alias Emon sododomized 120 children in Sukabumi in 2014. He was declared conditional since February 2023. Even though he was released from prison, Emon was required to report to the prosecutor's office and the police.
