JAKARTA - Dozens of junior high school (SMP) students were arrested by members of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Makassar Police and the East Jakarta Metro Police Precision Team in the Jalan Jatiwaringin area, Cipinang Melayu Village, Makasar District, East Jakarta.

The students were arrested because they wanted to do a brawl. The 36 teenagers were known to be students from SMP 17 Bekasi and SMP Assyafiyah Pondok Gede, Bekasi, West Java. For further processing, the dozens of students were handed over to the Makassar Police.

The Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Makassar Police, Iptu Mochamad Zen, explained that the students were arrested while in the middle of a pickup truck about a brawl. They were prevented by a joint team of Polsek members and the East Jakarta Police Precision Team.

"We brought them to the command and carried out an examination, but the crime was not fulfilled. Because we will only (brawl) and we managed to prevent it, thank God," said Iptu Mochamad Zen when confirmed by VOI, Wednesday, March 22.

After no criminal elements and sharp weapons were found, the students were only collecting data and summoning the school.

"We have called the teacher, we have searched all there is no evidence. We have data, call parents, RT/RW, the school and we make a statement letter. They also get sanctions from the school, we recommend the school to provide a deterrent effect," he said.

After collecting data, the students were handed over to their respective parents. However, sanctions will be given by their schools so that the incident does not happen again.

"We have already recorded them, if they happen again we report them to the school. No weapons were found when they were searched in bags and bodies, they were not found," he concluded.
