DPR Schedules Plenary Ratification Of Election Perppu To Be Law Next Week

JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, said that the DPR will hold a plenary meeting of approval for the Election Perppu into law next week. He revealed that the election Perppu decision was not brought to the plenary session today because it had not been scheduled for a deliberation meeting (Bamus). Although the Election Perppu was approved at level I at the Commission II meeting of the DPR RI last week. "Later we will be plenary next week, because we didn't enter the Bamus (last week) right," Dasco told reporters at the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, March 21. Dasco said that the Bamus, which will be held by the leadership of the DPR, is scheduled for next week. So, he said, the plenary meeting of the ratification will also be held in the same week. "Later it will still be Bamus again because not yesterday. Bamus immediately plenary," he said. Previously, Commission II of the DPR RI officially received Perppu Number 1 of 2022 concerning Amendments to Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections or Election Perppu. Chairman of Commission II of the DPR Ahmad Doli Kurnia said the approval would be brought to level two towards the Bamus and the Plenary Meeting. "We can make a decision, from the nine factions in Commission II that have approved and accepted the Election Perppu, to then be taken to level two to the Bamus and Plenary Session," said Ahmad Doli at the Commission II Working Meeting of the DPR RI, Wednesday, March 15. Meanwhile, the Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian was relieved after the Election Perppu was received by Commission II of the DPR RI. According to him, if the Perppu is not agreed upon immediately, there will be broad consequences and impacts, including those related to the election schedule. "If the Election Perppu is rejected, the government will issue regulations to revoke it. Now, the impact of the revocation is very broad," said Tito. "By being declared approved and accepted by Perppu, this is important and strategic because with the approval of this Perppu, the election can still be held according to the schedule and stages determined by the KPU," he continued.
