YOGYAKARTA - Tuan Guru Bajang (TGB) Zainul Majdi was encouraged by the Perindo Party to run for vice president in the 2022 presidential election. The appearance of the name TGB on the vice presidential candidate exchange also received a positive response from many groups. TGB Zainul Majdi's profile also needs to be highlighted regarding his actions.

The Perindo party offered TGB Muhammad Zainul Majdi as a vice presidential candidate in the 2023 election because he was considered to have met the party's criteria for vice president. Ahmad Rofiq, Secretary General of the Perindo Party DPP, will promote the former governor of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) to a corporate party after Eid 2023.

"Tuan Guru Bajang has fulfilled all the criteria wanted by the Perindo Party. He is a religious-nationalist, a young figure, experienced in the legislature and executive," said Rofiq in his statement, Monday, March 20, 2023.

Muhammad Zainul Majdi was born in Pancor, Selong, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), on May 13, 1972. The man who is currently 50 years old is usually called Tuan Guru Bajang. Tuan Guru Bajang (TGB) is a call from the Sasak people for young scholars.

TGB Zainul Majdi is the third son of HM Djalaluddin SH and Rauhun Zainuddin Abdul Majid. His father is a retired West Nusa Tenggara government bureaucrat. Meanwhile, his grandfather was an Islamic figure who founded the Nahdlatul Al-Wathan mass organization.

Zainul Majdi's childhood was spent in his hometown. TGB Zainul Majdi studied at SDN Mataram. He continued his education at Madrasah Tsanawiyah, Madrasah All Madrasah Aliyah Mu'allimin Pancor. He then continued his education at Ma'had Darul Qur'an Wal-Hadith Pancor.

TGB Zainul Majdi continued his higher education at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, taking the S1 program in the Department of Al-Qur'an Interpretation and Sciences. He earned a bachelor's degree in 1995. He also took his master's and doctoral degrees at the same university. He received his doctorate in 2010.

TGB Zainul Majdi's Career Journey

TGB Zainul Majdi started his career in the field of religion and education. He has been a preacher since 1999, as his educational and family background is strong in Islam. He then decided to join the Islamic organization Nahdlatul-Wathan which was founded by his grandfather. Even Zainul Majdi is believed to be the general chairman of PB Nahdlatu Al-Wathan.

TGB Zainul Majdi then entered politics as a member of the Crescent Star Party (PBB). He was later elected as a member of the DPR for the 2004-2004 period. However, he ended this position because he had to run in the 2008 NTB Governor Election (Pilgub). He was also successfully elected as NTB Governor for the 2008-2013 term at the young age of 36 years.

In the 2013 gubernatorial election, TGB Zainul Majdi again ran for the Democratic Party. He was re-elected to lead NTB for the 2013-2018 period. Zainul also holds the status as Indonesia's youngest governor who served two consecutive terms.

Apart from being active in preaching and advancing education in his area, TGB Zainul Majdi also contributed a lot when he served as Governor of NTB. While holding this position, he received a number of awards.

• Arutala Bhakti Husada Knight Badge: Award for his services in the development of the health sector. This award was given by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to TGB Zainul Majdi at the commemoration of National Health Day in Jakarta.
• The Best Province Tourism Development: NTB was confirmed as the ITA's Best Province for Tourism Development on Metro TV.
• Award in the Food Sector from the President of the Republic of Indonesia: for the achievement of increasing rice production (P2BN) by more than 5 percent in 2019.
• The Best Dedicated Governor in Developing of MICE Industry: as a Regional Head who is dedicated and innovates in developing the Meeting, Incentive, Conference, & Exhibition (MICE) industry in Indonesia.
• Awarded as the best coach of the National Village Community Empowerment Program (PNPM-Mpd) from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
• Bintang Mahaputra Utama Award from President SBY in 2012.
