Calls Tendensius IPW Complaints Leading To Slander, Deputy Minister Of Law And Human Rights: Please He's Koar-coar

JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights (Wamenkumham) Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej assessed the tendentious report of Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) against him regarding the alleged gratification of IDR 7 billion.

Edward said that for that reason he went to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to clarify today, Monday, March 20.

"On our own initiative, we are clarifying the KPK for IPW complaints that tend to lead to slander," Edward told reporters at the KPK's Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Monday, March 20.

Edward stated that there was a number of evidence submitted in the process of clarifying the report. However, he did not want to explain because everything had been submitted to the anti-corruption commission.

He only stated that he would not report the IPW allegations. For him, there are three reasons, including non-governmental organizations (NGOs) do have the aim of conducting surveillance.

"IPW is an NGO, an NGO whose job is a watchdog, yes, please talk about it because it is his job to do social control," he said.

In addition, if an official is complained about because of certain allegations, what he must do is clarify, not make a report to the police. "Thirdly, if I report, that means I am included in the criminal justice system," explained Edward.

"The criminal justice system is wherever the battle model is, the model is at war. If we go to war, we have to find a balanced opponent," he continued.

Furthermore, Edward also straightened out the issue of Yogie Arie Rukmana and Yosie Andika Mulyadi who were accused by IPW as intermediaries for receiving gratuities. He said that Yogi had indeed helped him before he served as Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights.

Meanwhile, Yosie was referred to as a lawyer, not as a personal assistant. "This is also a clarification to the public that the abuses conveyed by the two people are clearly wrong for personal assistants," he said.

As previously reported, Sugeng reported the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights to the KPK on suspicion of gratification worth Rp. 7 billion. This acceptance is allegedly related to the consultation and assistance for the ratification of a company's legal entity.

After this report was made, Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights assistant Yogi Ari Rukmana immediately reported Sugeng Teguh Santoso on suspicion of defamation to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police, Tuesday night, March 14.

The report was submitted because Sugeng called it an intermediary for receiving money by the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights in his alleged complaint to the KPK. Furthermore, this report is registered with the number STL/092/III/2023/BARESKRIM.

As for the alleged receipt of gratuities by the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights through him, Yogi emphasized that all of them were not true. He denied all the proof of transfer on his behalf that Sugeng submitted to the KPK.
