JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin emphasized that imports of used clothes can endanger the sustainability of the national textile industry and its products can also have a negative impact on the health of its users.

"I think the president has conveyed his response that imports of used clothes are endangering our national industry, our textile industry. Later, domestic products will be disrupted by imported used clothes," said Ma'ruf Amin as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, March 20.

Ma'ruf Amin said this to answer media questions after attending the 2023 Asri Nusantara Village Day event in Makmur Village, Pangkalan Kerinci District, Pelalawan Regency, Riau Province, Monday, according to a press release received in Jakarta.

According to him, the ban on imports of used clothes in addition to protecting the local textile industry is also to prevent the entry of used goods that are not guaranteed cleanliness, as well as reduce the environmental impact of used clothing waste.

"Although it may not be potential, it can also be less clean, its health, and then it's also not good (for the environment)," he explained.

Ma'ruf Amin emphasized that currently the government is proud to use domestic products. According to him, if Indonesia can produce its own clothes, why should import used clothes?

Therefore, according to him, the best thing right now is to advance the domestic textile industry. He also appealed to the public to continue to inflame love for domestic products.

"When will it be if it's not now and who else if it weren't us?" he said.

Also accompanying Vice President Ma'ruf Amin in the press conference were the Minister of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration (Mendes PDTT) Abdul Halim Iskandar, Riau Governor Syamsuar, and Pelalawan Regent H. Zukri.
