JAKARTA - Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) Anwar Usman emphasized that he would maintain the independence of constitutional judges in his institution.

"We will continue to maintain our independence as constitutional judges, regardless of the challenges and obstacles," said Anwar when giving a speech after the oath of the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court at the Constitutional Court Building, Jakarta, Monday, March 20, was confiscated by Antara.

Anwar explained that the Constitutional Court is currently almost 20 years old as an institution that carries out the mandate of reform to oversee the constitution.

Anwar also quoted the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad SAW who indiscriminately would uphold justice in accordance with the current rules, and would even punish Fatimah's beloved daughter if she was caught stealing.

"Personally, I stick to the minutes of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, 'If Fatimah's son steals, I myself will cut off his hand'," he said.

According to him, the lesson that can be learned from the words of the Prophet is that law enforcement and justice must not be hindered by kinship or family relations.

As for Anwar Usman and Saldi Isra, it is valid to be appointed as Chair and Deputy Chair of the Constitutional Court for the term of 2023-2028.
