PURWOKERTO- Ahead of Ramadan fasting, the price of red cayenne pepper jumped by Rp72,500 per kilogram in the traditional Purwokerto market, Banyumas Regency, Central Java.

Head of the Industry and Trade Office (Disperindag) of Banyumas Regency, Point Puji Astuti, admitted that the price of red chili pepper has increased gradually.

According to him, the increase in the price of red cayenne pepper occurred due to increased demand from consumers, while the supply was minimal.

"However, other commodity prices are still stable and hopefully they will remain under control until Ramadan and Eid," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, March 18.

Another thesis, according to one of Anjar's vegetable traders at Pasar Manis, Purwokerto, has increased the price of red cayenne peppers because the demand from consumers for these commodities has soared. On the other hand, he said, the supply from farmers has decreased due to the impact of the weather at the red cayenne pepper producer center.

"In the last few days, the price of red cayenne pepper has remained in the range of Rp72,500/kg after surging from Rp66,500/kg," he said.

Nevertheless, he admitted that he was worried that the price of red chili pepper would increase ahead of Eid, which would have an impact on sales.

"Indeed, usually at the beginning to Ramadan, the prices of a number of commodities, including red cayenne pepper, are relatively stable or even slightly decreased. However, before Eid, it will increase again due to supply distribution factors and increased demand from consumers," he explained.

Another trader, Aristin, said that the price of large red chilies, curly red chilies, and green cayenne peppers is relatively stable and has not shown a significant spike.

According to him, until now the price of large red chilies and curly red chilies still survive in the range of IDR 40,000/kg, while green cayenne pepper is IDR 45,000/kg.

"Similarly, other commodity prices are still relatively stable. Only red cayenne pepper has soared," he concluded.
