Political observer from Saiful Mujani Research & Consulting (SMRC) Saidiman Ahmad expressed his views on the opportunity for the duet of Gerindra Party Chair Prabowo Subianto with Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo.

According to Saidiman, Prabowo and Ganjar have the opportunity to be duet in the 2024 General Election.

"The opportunity is open (Ganjar-Prabowo duet), if for example Anies Baswedan's opponent. The government coalition is against the opposition," Saidiman said, quoted from ANTARA, Tuesday, March 14, 2023.

The reason is that both of them are popular figures and have the support of the public.

However, continued Saidiman, the decision will develop in the current world of politics in the country.

He said that the PDI-P as the party that won the election would certainly nominate internal party figures.

On the other hand, Jokowi supports Jokowi for Prabowo and Ganjar because the two figures are in the same political environment.

Ganjar is the governor of PDIP, Jokowi is from PDIP. Both are from the same environment. Then Pak Prabowo is the Minister of Defense, the minister under Jokowi. So from that point of view, we say, is there special support for one of the two, in my opinion, yes, they are the most potential (to win)," he explained.

Composition Of The Prabowo-Ganjar Duet Is Not A Matter Of Seniority

Meanwhile, political observer Adi Prayitno assessed that efforts to pair the pair Ganjar Pranowo and Prabowo Subianto could imitate the pair Joko Widodo and Ma'ruf Amin in the 2019 elections.

"Seniorities are no longer a barrier at this time to become a presidential or vice presidential candidate," said Adi Prayitno.

The Executive Director of Indonesian Political Parameters gave an example of President Joko Widodo, who had twice received vice presidents in the 2014 and 2019 elections, who were more senior and experienced with him.

According to Adi, Prabowo is more senior, it is undeniable. However, in the 2014 and 2019 presidential elections, Jokowi also had more senior vice presidential candidates, namely Jusuf Kalla and Ma'ruf Amin.

"However, the electability and support for Jokowi were superior at that time. Jokowi was supported by the PDI-P whose votes were mostly and personally, Jokowi's electability was higher than JK and Kiai Ma'ruf," he explained.

According to him, currently Ganjar's condition is similar to that of Jokowi during the last presidential election. Ganjar achieved higher electability than Prabowo in several current surveys. Prabowo's position is referred to as the second position for the electability level of the presidential candidate ahead of 2024.

Therefore, he said, supporting parties will certainly see the highest personal electoral to be made a presidential candidate.

"If the PDI-P later announces its presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo, it is clear that the PDI-P is electability higher than Gerindra so that it is impossible for Ganjar to be turned into a vice presidential candidate," he said.

Since the beginning, Gerindra has set a fixed price for Prabowo Subianto's candidacy. However, Adi continued, if Gerindra's consideration was due to seniority, it would not necessarily be a strong consideration.
