KEPRI - Police arrested the perpetrator of the burning of a hotel in Karimun Regency, Riau Islands (Kepri), Monday, March 13.

Karimun Police Chief AKBP Ryky Widya Muharam said the suspect with the initials EK deliberately set fire to the hotel, because he was annoyed with his friend with the initials AP who was staying at the hotel.

"So when this perpetrator happened under the influence of alcohol, he was annoyed with his friend because he felt he was not taken care of when he was drunk at a cafe," he said when contacted in Batam, Riau Islands, March 13, Monday, as reported by Antara.

He explained that this incident began when the suspect and his friend drank a table at a cafe on the evening of Sunday, March 12. However, when he was drunk, he was abandoned by his friend who immediately returned to the hotel where he was staying.

Suddenly the suspect EK came to the hotel in a drunken state and immediately slapped AP without a cause. Then after that the suspect went out and AP saw the EK perpetrator going to his room and came out in a change of clothes.

"According to the suspect's statement, when he was drunk and asleep he felt he was not being taken care of by his friend. After being a little conscious, he then went to the room where his friend was staying and slapped and immediately burned the pillow and left," he said.

The incident then made his friend panic because the fire quickly grew. They had asked for help to extinguish the fire, assisted by police officers and from the local fire department.

"During one hour the fire was successfully extinguished. For material losses, it is still not interpretable. One person was injured as a result of the incident and is under treatment," he said.

To account for his actions, the police charged the suspect under Article 187 of the Criminal Code with a penalty of 12 years in prison.
