Preventing Repeated Floods, Tasikmalaya Regency Government Asks For Normalization Of Two Rivers In Sukaresik

TASIKMALAYA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java has proposed river normalization to the River Basin Center (BBWS) to prevent repeat flood disasters due to the overflow of two rivers in Sukaresik District that often occur during the rainy season. "Coordination results, one of which is a normalization solution," said Head of the Tasikmalaya Regency BPBD Emergency and Logistics Division Kurnia Trisna in Tasikmalaya, Saturday, March 10. He said that BPBD Tasikmalaya had made efforts to tackle flood disasters caused by the overflow of the Cikidang River and Citanduy River in Sukaresik District. Efforts are being made, he said, one of which proposes river normalization in the Sukaresik region which is currently in a shallow condition, so that water is easily overflowing when heavy rain falls. "Yes, we are still asking for normalization, because there has been silting," he said. He said that so far there has been no attempt to normalize the river, if it is done at least water does not overflow and causes flooding in Sukaresik District.Tasikmalaya BPBD, he said, is still waiting for a decision from BBWS regarding the proposed river normalization. "I am still waiting for information from BBWS," he said. While waiting for river normalization, Kurnia said, his party is trying to educate the public about flood disaster mitigation which at any time could occur again, hitting Tanjungsari Village, Sukaresik District. Disaster mitigation carried out, he said, the community built a two-story, and for a new house building a higher foundation than roads to avoid flood inundation. "BPBD has already made such villages Disaster-resilty villages, mitigating in several houses there are those that make a kind of artifacts, and for new houses, they are raising foundations," he said.

He conveyed that the last flood disaster hit residential houses in Sukaresik District on Thursday, recorded 624 houses affected or as many as 2,579 people. The flood disaster did not last long, in a day the water had receded. However, the impact of the flood left dirty, and the residents' water sources could not be used.
