University Of Indonesia Condolences: Graduation Should Be Today, A Communications Student Chooses Suicide

Universitas Indonesia mourns, Mahasiswi Komunikasi meninggalkan bunuh diri (BEM UI)

JAKARTA - Melati Putri Dairly (MPD) a student of the 2019 State University's Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP UI) study program committed suicide ahead of her graduation.

Based on compiled data, Melati committed suicide at her apartment in the South Jakarta area on Wednesday, March 8 before the undergraduate graduation which will take place today, Saturday, March 11. The news of Melati's death in the 2019 class made her colleagues express their deep condolences. One of them came from the Association of Students of Communication Sciences FISIP University of Indonesia (HMIK FISIP UI).

"The entire HMIK UI extended family is sorry for the passing of our friend and sister, Melati Putri Dairly, a graduate of the International Special Class of Communications undergraduate program." in his Instagram account @hmikui wrote Saturday, March 11 afternoon.

"We pray that he can rest in peace in the best place by His side as well as his family and relatives who are left behind are given patience and fortitude in undergoing this loss," said Fadel, a contact with the Ministry of Social and Social Affairs of the 2023 HMIK UI on the account.

The Head of the Public Relations Bureau and KIP UI, Amelita Lusia, confirmed that MPD is a candidate for graduation who is supposed to undergo the graduation procession, this Saturday. Regarding the death of the campus, he expressed his deep condolences.

Information emerged that said MPD died of suicide. When confirmed about the news, UI was reluctant to provide information. This is because it is not within UI's authority to explain the causes and motives of Melati's death.

"Sorry, for the motive, it's not in the right place to ask us. Hopefully it can be understood, yes," he said.
