GARUT - Head of the Garut Police and Air (Polairud) Police Unit, AKP Anang Sonjaya, stated that a tourist was lost in the waves at Manalusu Beach, Garut Regency, West Java, because he swam in a dangerous zone where the waves were big and endangered those who swam there.

"It is true that this area is a dangerous area, it is not allowed to swim in that place," said Anang when contacted by reporters quoted by ANTARA, Monday, March 6.

He said a victim was identified as Faris (19), a resident of Pasuketan Village, Banjarwangi District, Garut, who was reportedly dragged by the waves while swimming with his friends on Manalusu Beach, Cigodong Village, Cikelet District, Garut, Sunday morning.

The beach where the victim swims, he said, is a prohibited area to swim and signs are always installed as danger zones. "Anyway, you can't swim along the beach," he said.

The current weather conditions in the coastal area, he said, are normal, making it possible to carry out the process of searching for victims by walking along the coast or into the middle of the ocean by boat.

The victim, said Anang, is currently still being searched for joint officers from elements of the local community, the victim's family, and also a joint SAR team from Basarnas, the police, TNI, and others.

Head of the Bandung SAR Office, Jumaril, said that his party had dispatched a team from the Tasikmalaya SAR Post to carry out a search for missing victims on Manalusu Beach since last Sunday.

He conveyed that the search effort was carried out by forming three teams, namely the first team combing the coast from the location of the missing victim to the west, then team 2 combed to the east, and team 3 conducted a search in the middle of Manalusu Beach waters.

Previously, the victim traveled with his friends to Manalusu Beach, one of the beach attractions in the southern region of Garut. But when swimming suddenly there was a big wave that dragged him into the middle of the ocean.

The victim's friends tried to help him when it was discovered that the waves dragged into the middle of the ocean, but the effort was unsuccessful, until they asked local fishermen for help.

Furthermore, fishermen and the community and other joint officers searched for victims around the location where they swam on the beach.
