"We have just received information regarding this incident, while we urge residents not to approach the location, conditions are still heavy rain, we are worried that there will be further landslides," said Head of BPBD Natuna Regency, Raja Darmika in Natuna, Riau Islands, Monday, March 6, as reported by Antara.
According to Raja, in extreme weather conditions with high rainfall intensity, almost all areas are prone to landslides.
"Since yesterday there have been several landslides on Serasan Island, we are currently collecting data on the impact of the incident," he said.
He also said that BPBD had difficulty gathering information related to landslides in the area because the internet network was not available and bad weather conditions.
"We have coordinated with the relevant parties, yesterday because heading to the area we could not use Basarnas ships or local government ships, the waves were big, but while we entrusted the sub-district there to work," he said.
He also said that his party would continue to make coordination efforts and hoped that the impact of the landslide would not cause any casualties.
As is known, a landslide occurred in Air Nusa Village, East Serasan District. The area is about 14 hours from the center of the capital city of Natuna Regency, Ranai, if it uses ship transportation.
