Jusuf Kalla: PMI Ready To Accommodate How Many Refugees Depo Plumpang Fire Victims

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) has prepared shelters for fire victims that occurred at the Pertamina Plumpang Depot, North Jakarta.

The reason is, the shelter will also provide food, clothing, and clean water assistance for the victim.

"PMI accommodates how many refugees whose houses caught fire and we will fulfill all our needs while we are waiting for the policies taken by the Governor and Pertamina," said PMI Central Chairman M Jusuf Kalla quoting Antara, Saturday, March 4.

He said that residents whose houses were affected by the fire could evacuate in PMI shelters until they returned to their homes.

PMI also provides assistance for residents affected by fires who evacuate in PMI shelters and outside PMI shelters.

"Logistical assistance is not only here, but also outside, because PMI's job is indeed that," said Jusuf Kalla.

Jusuf Kalla also stated that during his tenure as vice president he often conveyed warnings about the dangers of settlements that were too close to Pertamina's depot.

He conveyed this because the fire that hit the Pertamina Depot on March 3, 2023 was not the first incident.

A fire also occurred in depot 24 which houses 5,000 kilo liters of premium fuel on January 17, 2009.

Jusuf Kalla said that the area around the Pertamina depot should be free from residential areas so that the number of victims can be minimized if an incident such as a fire occurs.
