JAKARTA - KPU member Idham Holik ensured that the implementation of the 2024 election stages carried out by the KPU (General Election Commissions) was not disrupted by the decision of the Central Jakarta District Court (PN Jakpus). In its decision, the KPU was asked to stop the election stages and start from the beginning.

"The stages (of the 2024 election) were not disturbed at all. Currently, the KPU has completed updating voter data because March 14, 2023, is the deadline for updating voter data by the pantarlih (voter data updating officer)," Idham told reporters in Jakarta, Friday March 3, confiscated by Antara.

He said, as stated by KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy'ari, the KPU will continue to carry out the stages of organizing the 2024 Election as stipulated in KPU Regulation Number 3 of 2022 concerning Stages and Schedules for the 2024 Election after the Central Jakarta District Court's decision.

Furthermore, Idham conveyed the progress of the stages for the 2024 Election being carried out by the KPU. In addition to updating voter data, the KPU is currently also continuing factual verification of voter support for prospective DPD member candidates.

"Currently, the KPU is also carrying out legal drafting (preparation) of the draft KPU regulations for the nomination of legislative members because according to Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections, nine months before voting day, the KPU must have received the proposal for prospective legislative members," he said.

Furthermore, Idham said that the KPU plans to open submissions for candidates for legislative members from May 1 to 14 2023.

"So, now we are focused on completing the stages of holding elections, as stipulated in Article 167 paragraph (4) of Law Number 7 of 2017 and I am sure that the Indonesian public knows how elections must be held every five years," he added.

He emphasized that holding elections regularly every five years is not only the mandate of Article 167 paragraph (1) of the Election Law, but also the mandate of Article 22E paragraph (1) of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia.

"So, holding elections every five years is a constitutional mandate and we know that our democracy is a constitutional democracy," said Idham.
