NTT - Police have named a new suspect with SM initials in the theft case of 24 Telkomsel base transceiver station (BTS) batteries in Oesao Village, Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The suspect is the key holder of the BTS entrance.

"So now the number of suspects is six after we named the key holder of the BTS entrance with the initials SM as a suspect," said Kupang Police Chief AKBP FX Irwan Arianto on Thursday, March 2, confiscated by Antara.

SM was named a suspect after his party carried out a series of developments related to the theft case on Saturday, February 25.

"The investigative team named SM as a suspect because it was proven to have helped the perpetrators to steal the battery," he said.

Based on the results of the examination, the 24 BTS batteries that have been secured at the Kupang Police Headquarters are planned to be sold by the perpetrators. However, it is not yet known who will buy the number of batteries.

The five suspects were arrested on February 25, while carrying out the theft in Oesao Village, Kupang Regency.

Now with the increase in suspects, there are already six people. Among others, AK alias Adi (33), YHNK alias Hanis (34), RA alias Richad (24), YA alias Yano (30) and JN alias Jendris (21) and the last one is SM.

The suspects face a maximum of seven years in prison, for being subject to Article 363 paragraph 1 to 4 of the KUPH with a threat of five years in prison.

"However, because Article 4 is an article on theft with weight, the penalty is increased to a maximum of seven years," he added.

Furthermore, he said, a number of witnesses had been examined and 24 pieces of evidence in the form of BTS batteries.

The police also said that a number of batteries were stolen from Telkomsel's BTS tower, resulting in a loss of Rp. 103.2 million.

He also appreciated residents who had dared to report the theft case.
