BMKG Issues Early Warning Of High Waves, KSOP Labuan Bajo Postpones Ship Departure

LABUAN BAJO - Kesyahbandaran Office and Labuan Bajo Class III Port Authority, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara issued a letter of postponement of ship departures in the region. This was done following the early warning of high waves issued by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). "This announcement is effective from February 27, 2024 until the issuance of the latest weather forecast information updates from the West Manggarai BMKG," said the daily executive of the Head of the Labuan Bajo Class III KSOP, Maksianus Mooy in an announcement letter received in Maumere, Sikka Regency, Antara, Tuesday, February 28. The letter explains that the delay in ship departures is due to safety and shipping security considerations. KSOP Class III Labuan Bajo also instructed the captain, owner, and operator of the ship operating in the working area of the Class III KSOP Labuan Bajo and Komodo National Park to postpone the ship's departure. The delay was based on the BMKG High Wave Early Warning from February 28 to March 1, 2023 with wave heights ranging from 1.25 meters to 2.5 meters. Head of the Komodo Labuan Bajo Meteorological Station, Sti Nenotek, advised ship owners and captains to heed the weather forecasts and early warnings issued by the BMKG. He said heavy rain accompanied by strong winds also affected the wave height which could endanger shipping activities. "Make sure to always follow the early warning issued by the BMKG," said Sti advised.
