Firefighters Evacuate Cobras Entering Sei Lekop Residents' Wells, East Bintan

BINTAN - The Technical Implementation Unit for the Fire Service (UPTD Damkar) of East Bintan District, Bintan Regency, Riau Islands evacuated a cobra into a resident's well in Sei Lekop Village.

Head of the UPTD Fire Department of East Bintan Nurwendi said the whereabouts of a cobra was discovered when a resident named Muslimanto was about to collect water from a well, Sunday, February 26 morning.

"He was shocked, suddenly there was a cobra in his well. Then he reported it to the RT head, and forwarded it to the East Bintan Fire Department", said Nurwendi, quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, February 26.

Based on the report, the rescue team immediately went to the scene to carry out the evacuation process. After nearly 30 minutes, the cobra was finally caught using wooden tools and a bucket.

According to him, the evacuation process was quite difficult, because the venomous animal was about seven meters deep in the well.

"After the evacuation, we will release it to its natural habitat", he said

The victim's snake is thought to have come from a bush near the Muslimanto resident's house. The weather is hot, allowing cobras to come out of their nests to find cooler shelters.

He urged residents to immediately report to the East Bintan Fire Department if they find snakes or other types of venomous animals that enter the residential areas of residents.

"It's a venomous animal, it must be dangerous. So, if you see one, report it directly to us, don't act alone", said Nurwendi.
