JAKARTA - Anies Baswedan is certain to run as a presidential candidate in the upcoming 2024 presidential election which will be promoted by the Change Coalition. However, from the three political parties in the coalition, only NasDem and PKS have officially declared Anies as the party's vice president. Political observer Arifki Chaniago said the declaration reduced concerns about Anies' failure as a presidential candidate in 2024. This is because Anies' chances of not getting a ticket are very large considering that the former governor of DKI Jakarta is not a party cadre. However, the declaration of NasDem and PKS for Anies as a presidential candidate in 2024 is considered incomplete if there is no certainty from the Democrats to announce it formally. So far, the attitude of the new Democrats through a written statement by Ketum Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY). "The certainty of the presidential and vice presidential candidates of the change coalition can be trusted by the public if Surya Paloh, Salim Assegaf, and SBY (Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono) meet together by introducing Anies," said Arifki in his statement, Saturday, February 25. On the other hand, according to Arifki, NasDem and PKS' interests in supporting Anies as a presidential candidate are certainly realistic. The reason is, these two political parties do not have party cadres who can be promoted as presidential and vice presidential candidates. "The election simultaneously makes these two parties need a 'brand' to attract the popularity of the presidential candidate to become the party's advantage," he added. Previously, the Deputy Chairperson of the NasDem Party, Ahmad Ali, assessed that Anies' declaration as the 2024 presidential candidate promoted by the Democrats still had to go through the party's internal official mechanism. Because according to him, AHY's support for Anies was declared only in a release that could potentially be sued by Democratic cadres. "If in one decision it is not taken or determined by the party mechanism, it will have the potential to be sued," Ali said when contacted, Saturday, February 25. Ali emphasized that he did not doubt the Democratic support for Anies who was declared AHY in a written statement last January. However, he said, AHY's attitude was not necessarily accepted by all Democratic cadres.
