Basarnas Handi 38 Sea Accidents In Riau Islands Throughout 2022, Most Fishermen Victims

KEPRI - Tanjungpinang Basarnas Office, handled 38 cases of marine accidents throughout 2022. The victims of accidents were mostly fishermen.

He explained that the ship accidents that occurred in the waters of Tanjungpinang, Batam, Lingga and Karimun did more hit the fishermen who were triggered by running out of fuel, bad weather, the ship sank and fell from the ship.

According to him, of the 38 cases handled, a total of 142 victims were rescued. 37 people died, and only 2 people have not been found.

"The incident that claimed the most victims, namely the accident of a ship carrying Indonesian Migrant Workers or PMIs in Batam waters, reached tens of people," he said.

When compared to 2021, he continued, the difference in the number of marine accidents handled by Basarnas Tanjungpinang is not much different.

However, the victims who were rescued increased as well as the victims of more discoveries in 2022.

Meanwhile, in early 2023, he said, there had been no sea accident in local waters.

Riyadi hopes that the ship will no longer be injured, let alone claimed lives. Therefore, the appeal is to remind all ship operators, marine service communities and fishermen to monitor the latest weather developments released by the BMKG and BPBD before carrying out activities at sea.

"Moreover, recently the extreme weather has triggered high waves. People must be more careful to avoid marine accidents," he said.
