RIAU - The Pekanbaru City Fire and Rescue Service (DPKP) will propose an additional six fire fleet units (damkar) to the Riau Provincial Government (Pemrov).

The head of the Pekanbaru City DPKP, Burhan Gurning, said the submission was due to the high frequency of fires in Pekanbaru.

"So we will propose additional fire engines to the provincial government next year," he said in Pekanbaru, Thursday, February 23, as reported by Antara.

Of the six units submitted to the DPKP, four were for portable blackouts. Meanwhile, two other vehicles are for the supplier unit.

Pekanbaru City DPKP has actually received two additional fire units for this year. However, the number of firefighters in Pekanbaru City is not sufficient.

The number of fleets owned by the Pekanbaru City DPKP is currently 14 units of fire vehicles. There are three more fire engines but no longer functioning.

According to Burhan, this number has not been able to reach efforts to extinguish fires in 15 sub-districts. Ideally, in Pekanbaru City there are 30 firefighters helping to extinguish the fire when a fire broke out.

"The current fire brigade is not enough, this condition is also constrained when facilities in support of the blackout are inadequate," he said.

A few days ago a great fire scorched hundreds of kiosks in Cik Puan Market. Then the fire also scorched 9 buildings on Jalan Pangeran Hidayat.

At Cik Puan Market as many as 400 stalls were averaged by the fire that occurred in Sunday (19/2) afternoon. Until now, the police are still investigating the cause of the fire, it is strongly suspected that the flames emerged from empty stalls due to the electricity.*
