Police officers from the Ogan Ilir Resort, South Sumatra named three people as suspects in the case of beating a motorcycle thief to death in the local area. The alleged perpetrator of the motorcycle theft with the initials EH, became the victim of death after being beaten by residents in Tanjung Tambak Village, Tanjung Batu, Ogan Ilir (OI), Saturday, January 31, 2023. Head of Ogan Ilir Police, AKBP Andi Baso, said that there were three main suspects in the beating case with the initials JN (37), a resident of Hamlet 1, Tanjung Lalang Village, Ogan Ilir. Then, two other suspects, namely IM (34), a resident of Hamlet 1 Tanjung Tambak, and AD (45), a resident of Hamlet 2, Tanjung Tambak Baru Village, Ogan Ilir. According to him, they were named suspects after police investigators examined several witnesses and supported by the adequacy of evidence, including video recordings of the beatings. From the results of the police investigation, it was found that the three of them allegedly provoked residents to the incident that killed EH. EH, who was rushed by the police to the nearest hospital in Ogan Ilir, was pronounced dead at the scene of the case with bruises on his head and body. "“ They (IM, AD and JN) admitted their actions and are currently being held in the detention room of the Ogan Ilir Police Headquarters as suspects," he said in Indralaya, Ogan Ilir Regency, Antara, Wednesday, February 22. The police also confiscated evidence in the form of amateur video recordings of beatings, clothes, wooden blocks, two motorcycles belonging to the victim EH and two motorbikes belonging to suspect JN. For their actions, the suspects were charged with violating Article 170 of the Criminal Code with a threat of imprisonment of 12 years.
