JAKARTA - One resident died after being hit by a landslide in Nganjuk Regency, East Java Province.

Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, explained that this incident was triggered by unstable soil conditions that resulted in landslides and the fall of several spruce trees in the Sedudo Waterfall Tourism Object that hit the victim.

"The victim is known to have been taken to the funeral home after the evacuation process was carried out. The Sedudo Waterfall Tourism Object is now temporarily closed for further investigation by the authorities," Abdul said, Friday, February 17, as reported by Antara.

Abdul said the landslide occurred on Tuesday (14/2) in Ngeliman Village, Sawahan District at around 15.30 WIB.

Referring to the BMKG weather forecast, Nganjuk has the potential to rain with moderate to heavy intensity accompanied by lightning and strong winds from day to night. In addition, according to an inaRisk study, it shows that Nganjuk Regency has the potential for landslide hazards at a moderate to high level which has an impact on 10 sub-districts.

"In response to this, BNPB urges the public to increase preparedness and vigilance, especially in conditions of high intensity rain. The public is advised that if after the landslide rains, immediately anticipate further landslides by evacuating and following local government instructions regarding the prohibition of approaching landslide locations," said Abdul.

In addition, the public can also monitor weather forecast information through the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and check potential disasters around the area through InaRisk.
