OKU - Residents of dozens of houses in Baturaja City that were flooded are now starting to clean their houses from mud.

The high rainfall that occurred on Thursday 16 February afternoon until evening caused the area in Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency, South Sumatra (Sumsel) to be flooded.

"The BPBD team and volunteers are currently still in the field to help residents clean up the remaining flood material," said Manager of the OKU Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Gunalfi, Friday, February 17, as reported by Antara.

Ganafi said the OKU BPBD had dispatched teams and heavy equipment to locations affected by the flood.

Previously, 52 houses of Baturaja City were flooded with water levels between 30-60 centimeters.

"Last night's flood surrounded parts of Baturaja City with affected areas including Baturaja Permai, Sekarjaya and Air Paoh Villages, East Baturaja District," he said.

Even though there were no casualties, he said, as a result of the natural disaster, community activities were disrupted because a number of public roads were submerged in water.

To anticipate further disasters, Ganafi appealed to all people of OKU Regency to increase their vigilance so that floods do not cause casualties.

"The OKU BPBD Pusdalops monitors the 1x24 hour weather from the BMKG to continue early warnings to the public to be more vigilant in order to anticipate casualties due to natural disasters," he said.
