JABAR - The police have arrested a mobile ice cream seller following dozens of students at SD Negeri 2 Kersamenak, Tarogong Kidul District, Garut Regency, suspected of being poisoned by school snacks.
Garut Police Chief AKBP Rio Wahyu Anggoro said the ice cream seller was secured for questioning.
"We have secured the ice cream seller, and are currently investigating," he told reporters in Garut, West Java (West Java), Wednesday, February 15, which was confiscated by Antara.
He said that the Garut Police received information that 66 Kersamenak Elementary School students complained of stomach pain, dizziness, and nausea that was suspected after consuming snacks in the form of ice cream at their school, Tuesday, February 14.
The police, he said, immediately processed the scene of the case, examined a number of witnesses, and looked for ice cream sellers until they were finally secured at his home.
"We already know the whereabouts of the person who sold the ice cream, at 23.00 WIB, I myself led directly to secure someone with the initials M aged 60 years," said the Police Chief.
He revealed that the results of the temporary inspection of the ice cream seller were made by himself at home and had been selling since 2019 at a selling price of Rp. 2,000 for the packaging unit.
In a day, he said, the ice cream he made was able to sell for approximately two to three thousand ice cream packages with selling areas to schools.
"The ice cream he made in one day can be two thousand cups, sold at school," he said.
The police chief said that the results of the examination related to poisoning due to ice cream were still in doubt, because there were only 66 people who bought ice cream, while only 66 people were poisoned and only in one school.
Meanwhile, buyers in other areas, said the Police Chief, do not experience poisoning, for that it is necessary to conduct laboratory tests on food and ice cream consumed by students who are poisoned.
"Those who buy are not small children, there are also teachers and parents, they are okay with it, there are also parents that are okay, but the child is poisoned," said the Police Chief.
He emphasized that the results of the interim examination did not contain an element of intent, although it will be proven later by the results of laboratory tests whether there are substances that are dangerous or not.
"We are still investigating the case, of course we ask for time. For the current condition of the victim, all of them are healthy, some have been able to enter school," he said.
