BANDA ACEH - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that Aceh has entered the transition season from the rainy season to the dry season, but residents still need to be aware of the potential for floods and landslides in the next few days.

"Currently we are still in the transition period from the rainy season to the dry season," said BMKG Class I Data and Information Coordinator Sultan Iskandar Muda Aceh Besar Zakaria Ahmad as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, February 13.

However, Zakaria still appealed to the residents of the westernmost province of Indonesia to be aware of the potential for floods and landslides, considering the potential for rain to still flush several parts of Aceh in the next few days.

Especially, he said, for the districts of East Aceh, North Aceh, Bener Meriah, Southeast Aceh, Gayo Lues, Aceh Singkil, Aceh Jaya, West Aceh to South Aceh, which still has the potential to experience light to moderate rain.

"Indeed, when viewed from the dynamics of the atmosphere, in the next two to three days Aceh will still have light to moderate rain," he said.

Meanwhile, the areas of Pidie, Pidie Jaya, Bireuen, Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar districts with the potential for cloudy to uneven rain in a number of areas.

"So lowland areas need to be aware of flooding, while for highlands such as Central Aceh, Bener Meriah, Gayo Lues, and Southeast Aceh, you need to be aware of potential landslides," he said.

Currently, Zakaria added, the Aceh region has entered the east wind, with a speed of between 5-15 km per hour, with a low wind speed category.

Meanwhile, for sea waves, said Zakaria, the highest is between 1.25 - 2.5 meters in the waters of North Sabang, West Indian Ocean Aceh, to the South West coast of Aceh or the low to medium category.

"This means that fishermen who are small boats should be more careful, because with a sea wave height of 2.5 meters it can also be dangerous for small boat fishermen," he said.

Meanwhile, the sea wave conditions for the crossing area are relatively low, namely between 0.5 to 1.25 meters, both crossings from Ulee Lheu Port Banda Aceh - Balohan Port, Sabang City, and crossings from Meulaboh, West Aceh - Sinabang, Simeulue Regency or vice versa.
