PALEMBANG - South Sumatra Police have uncovered cases of illegal crude oil refining into diesel fuel with a total production of 15 tons per day in Musi Banyuasin Regency. Dirreskrimsus Polda South Sumatra Kombes Agung Marlianto said the crude oil refining activity was carried out using a room in the Bu’De fast food restaurant, Keluang District, Musi Banyuasin Regency. Officers arrested three perpetrators who were refining illegal crude oil in the room on Friday, February 10 last evening. The three suspects are men with the initials SA (30) a resident of Banyuwangi Regency, East Java. SO (40) a resident of Bojonegoro, East Java, and MA (22) a resident of Musi Banyuasin. To investigators, the suspects admitted that they had just operated to purify illegal crude oil into diesel in the past month. The raw materials for crude oil were obtained by the perpetrators from illegal oil wells belonging to the community in Keluang District to be processed traditionally. “ From that activity they are able to produce 15 tons of diesel fuel per day. Then the diesel is sold for Rp. 5,000 to Rp. 6,000 per liter with distribution areas of Ogan Ilir and Ogan Komering Ilir,” he said in Palembang, Antara, Monday, February 13. Agung explained that the disclosure of the mode of illegal crude oil refining activities was the result of the development of investigations of two suspects, the driver of the diesel fuel transport with the initials OR (24) and AZ (42). The two suspects were caught by personnel from Unit 2 Sub-Directorate IV Tipidter Ditreskrimsus carrying diesel using a modified open tub car passing on Jalan Soekarno Hatta, Palembang, Thursday (9/2) early morning. The two open tub cars driven by the suspect each contained 2 tons and 2.5 tons of diesel produced by purification. The evidence was stored by the suspect in several drums with a capacity of 200 liters which were to be distributed to the districts of Ogan Ilir and Ogan Komering Ilir. “ Per one drum was purchased Rp900 thousand from the purification site. Then they sold Rp1.05 million. From here, for one transport they made a profit of Rp1.8 million,” he said. From the hands of the police suspects confiscated evidence including 4.5 tons of refining diesel, two units of Suzuki Carry open tub cars with police numbers BG-8582—XA and Daihatsu Grandmax BG—1420—JO, one pump engine, two cell phones, and four plastic drums, and six tanks with a capacity of 1,000 liters and 2,000 liters. For their actions, the suspects were charged with violating Article 54 of Law No. 22 of 2001 concerning Oil and Gas and/or Article 480 of the Criminal Code, with the threat of imprisonment for six years and a fine of Rp. 60 billion.
