JAKARTA - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday praised efforts to restore the power generation system damaged by the Russian attack, but warned residents too early to declare victory in the energy sector.

President Zelensky said electric workers had done an excellent job of repairing damage caused by Russian missile and drone strikes on Friday, so most people didn't have to face too many blackouts on Saturdays and Sundays.

"The fact that... after this week's massive missile attack, we can have peaceful energy days prove the professionalism of our energy workers," he said in a late-night video address.

"We must be aware: this is not yet a decisive victory in the energy sector. Unfortunately, there may be a new terrorist attack from Russia. There may be new restrictions in the event of further destruction or consumption growth," he continued.

President Zelensky further said the scheduled energy outages would occur once again starting Monday this week.

Russia has carried out repeated waves of attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities in recent months, sometimes causing millions of people without a supply of light, heating, or water during winter.

Separately, Energy Minister German Galushchenko said the power deficit after the attack had been significantly reduced, thanks to an "ultra-fast repair program" that ensured nine units of nuclear power in Ukrainian-controlled territory were working and connected to the power grid.

"This is the best response from Ukrainian energy workers to enemy shootings," he said in a statement.
