Lenticularis clouds shaped like UFOs (ANTARA)

JAKARTA - BMKG Region V Jayapura stated that a UFO-shaped cloud in the Jayapura City and Regency sky was associated with an earthquake that recently occurred known as the Lenticularis cloud. Head of BMKG Yustus Rumakiek in Jayapura, Saturday said the Lenticularis cloud was shaped similar to a lens or plate formed because the wind was blowing parallel to the earth's surface but got barriers from certain objects such as mountains, causing the air current to move up vertically. If the air rises and contains a lot of water vapor and is stable, then when it reaches the temperature of the dew point at the top of the mountain, the water vapor will begin to condense into clouds following the top contour of the mountain.

This cloud indicates a strong irregular airflow (turbulence) in the atmospheric layer so that it is very dangerous for flights. "This cloud is formed purely a meteorological phenomenon (weather) and has nothing to do with earthquakes like what is circulating in the community today, a new phenomenon has only emerged once in the Jayapura region," explained Rumakiek as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, February 11.

Sebelumnya BMKG menyatakan sejak tanggal 2 Januari hingga Sabtu, 11 Februari pukul 09:15 WIT telah terjadi gempa bumi di wilayah sekitar Kota Jayapura sebanyak 1.174 kali dengan 172 kejadian diantaranya dirasakan oleh masyarakat.Masyarakat diimbau tetap tenang dan tidak teribat isu yang tidak dapat dipertanggungjawab kebenaskan dan menghindari dari bangunan yang rencak atau rusak oleh gempa. Pencari dan pastikan bangunan tempat tinggal Anda cukup tahan gempa, atau tidak ada kerusakan akibat getaran gempa yang membahayakan stabilitas bangunan sebelum Anda kembali ke dalam rumah.
