There Have Been 19 Earthquakes Since Wednesday Night, the Jayapura BPBD Checks the Field For Damage Data

JAYAPURA - The Jayapura City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) is currently still recording damage caused by aftershocks from Wednesday (8/2) evening to Thursday (9/2) early morning.

Jayapura City BPBD Head Asep Khalid said currently personnel from the Jayapura City BPBD were going to the field to record damage to buildings.

From the interim reports that were recorded, namely that the damage to the Nurul Amin Mosque in Doc V had a collapsed ceiling and the Yapis Education area in Doc V had cracked walls.

Indeed, since Wednesday night (8/2) until Thursday morning at around 5.56 WIT Jayapura City was hit by 19 aftershocks with varying strengths.

The highest data occurred on Wednesday, at 20.35 WIT, with a magnitude of 4.7, and early Thursday at 02.48 a.m. Eastern Indonesian Time (WIT) with a magnitude of 4.5.

To make reporting easier for residents, the Jayapura City BPBD has opened a Call Center with the number 08114860117 which can be contacted at any time.

"We hope that the public will not panic because aftershocks have continued to occur since early January," said Asep Khalid.

Meanwhile, the BMKG Region V Jayapura BMKG Observation Coordinator Danang Pamuji separately said that based on BMKG observations from January 2 to Thursday (9/2) at 10:24 a.m. WIT it was recorded that 1.055 earthquakes had occurred in Jayapura City with 120 incidents of which were felt by the community.

For this reason, the public is advised to remain calm and not be influenced by issues whose truth cannot be justified and avoid buildings that are cracked or damaged by the earthquake.

"Check and make sure the building where you live is sufficiently earthquake resistant or there is no damage due to earthquake vibrations that endanger the stability of the building before you return to the house," said Danang Pamuji.
