JAKARTA - The number of Indonesian citizens (WNI) who died as a result of the 7.8 SR earthquake that hit Turkey became two people, when the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara continued to try its best to be aware of Indonesian citizens there.

"So those who died in Kahramanmaras were Indonesian citizens' mothers and one child aged one year. Because the rules for children under 18 years old can automatically hold Indonesian passports. So the calculation is that two Indonesian citizens have died," explained the Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey Lalu M. Iqbal in his statement to reporters, Wednesday, February 8.

As previously reported, sad news came from Kahramanmaras, where an Indonesian citizen named Nia Malinda from Bali along with a year old child and her husband, who is a Turkish citizen, was found dead due to being buried by the rubble.

"Colonel Amir, Indonesian Defense Attache of the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara, who led the Evacuation Team to Kahramanmaras, has ensured that the restoration of the deceased and the Indonesian Embassy has communicated this to the family of the deceased," said the statement of the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara.

"The deceased and his family will be buried today in Kahramanmaras," the statement continued.

It is known that the evacuation team of the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara led by Ambassador Lalu M. Iqbal managed to evacuate 123 Indonesian citizens in a number of different locations affected by the 7.8 SR earthquake that rocked Turkey on Monday.

"Alhamdulillah, according to the President's orders through the Indonesian Foreign Minister, the Indonesian Embassy team arrived at the earthquake site to hand over humanitarian assistance and evacuate affected Indonesian citizens to Ankara. I have asked the Indonesian citizens who were evacuated to notify their families in Indonesia to calm down," said the Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey in a written statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara.

The evacuation process was carried out after the team traveled for 17 hours, in the midst of a snowstorm and temperatures ranging from 4 to -7 degrees Celsius.

The Ambassador then explained that the evacuation was carried out from the four most affected points of the earthquake. The number evacuated was 123 people from the original target of 104 people. This includes 2 Malaysian citizens and 1 Myanmar citizen.

A mother and two children who could not be contacted were found by an evacuation team at Hatay in a safe condition. Meanwhile, two Indonesian citizens who work in Diyarbakir are still in the process of being investigated.
