Sumatran Tigers Detectioned, 3 Schools In Lubuk Dalam Were Immediately Closed

Three schools in Lubuk Dalam Subdistrict had to be closed following reports from residents who saw the appearance of Sumatran tigers in the area.

State Elementary School (SD) manager 07 Lubuk Dalam, SD Negeri 08 Lubuk Dalam, and State Junior High School 3 Lubuk Dalam were temporarily asked to carry out teaching and learning activities online for the safety of students and other school residents.

"The head of the education unit should condition teachers, education staff, and students to study at home (via online) until information is provided from the Siak Regency Education and Culture Office," said Head of the Siak Mahadar Regency Education and Culture Office in Siak, Wednesday, February 8.

He appealed to students and other school residents not to carry out activities in forest and garden areas alone to avoid the threat of tigers.

"Not passing through and through places where wild animals have the potential to appear, especially at night. There are no actions that can threaten the existence of wild animals roaming by shooting and or ensnaring wild animals," he said.

Residents who saw tigers appear were asked to immediately report to the village and sub-district apparatus, the Village Development Officer (Babinsa), Bhayangkara, the Community Security and Order Development Officer (Bhabinkamtibmas), or the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).

On Monday (6/2) the cattle belonging to residents in Lubuk Dalam Village were reportedly eaten by wild animals.

The Riau Natural Resources Conservation Center team from Siak Resort the next day went to Lubuk Dalam to check.

According to the results of the inspection, there were two cows belonging to workers that were kept in the PT Perkebunan Nusantara V plantation area which was allegedly eaten by tigers.

"It is suspected that the cows were eaten by Sumatran tigers, because at the location traces of tigers with a size of 13 cm were found. The cows that were eaten had been dragged as far as approximately 30 meters from the location," said Acting Head of Natural Resources Conservation Division Region II Hartono.
