Cak Imin's Response To The Elimination Of Governor's Position, Vice President Ma'ruf: Let Only The Discourse Develop

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said the proposed abolition of the governor's position was the domain of the DPR to discuss and decide. The proposal for this abolition was submitted by the Chairman of PKB, Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin. "Let the discourse develop, there will be talks in the DPR. So, we'll just follow it," said Ma'ruf Amin in an electronic message received in Jakarta, Antara, Thursday, February 7. Ma'ruf is currently reviewing the Java Integrated and Industrial Port Estate (JIIPE) Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Manyar District, Gresik, East Java. Ma'ruf emphasized that the proposal needs to be studied by experts so that the best choice is obtained. "Later, the experts will discuss whether it is better not to be elected or elected by the DPRD or appointed by the president as representatives of the central government in the regions," he said. According to him, various discourses related to the election of governors have actually appeared for a long time but have arisen and drowned, ranging from the discourse of the governor being appointed by the president, being elected by the DPRD, until they are still directly elected by the people as is currently in effect.
