The investigating prosecutor for the West Seram District Attorney (SBB), Maluku, named the treasurer of the auxiliary expenditure at the BPBD of SBB Regency, MT as a new suspect. MT is suspected of being involved in a case of alleged corruption in the management of the remaining ready-to-use funds for the emergency handling of the earthquake in 2019. "The suspect MT was named a suspect on February 3, 2023 and detained at the Class II Piru Penitentiary, SBB Regency for the next 20 days, after undergoing examination," said Head of the Maluku Penkum and Public Relations Office, Wahyudi Kareba in Ambon, Antara, Tuesday, February 7. According to him, the SBB Kejari had previously named MM as the official commitment maker on the project as a suspect since December 22, 2022 and has been detained in Piru Prison. The actions of the two suspects are suspected of having violated the provisions as regulated and threatened with criminal penalties under Article 2 paragraph (1) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of criminal acts of corruption. The threat of imprisonment with life imprisonment or a minimum of four years and a maximum of 20 years, a minimum fine of Rp. 200 million and a maximum of Rp. 1 billion or Article 3 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption. "If the investigating prosecutor feels that the elements in the alleged article have been fulfilled, the first stage case file will be submitted to the Public Prosecutor to be transferred to the court," said Wahyudi.
