JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, asked Commission IX of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) to review the atypical progressive acute kidney failure case that occurred some time ago.
"We will ask the technical commission and the government to examine why this can happen again, has the rest of the drugs not been withdrawn in the community? This is a bit difficult, especially in remote areas," said Dasco at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday, February 7, as reported by Antara.
Dasco said that the GGAPA case, which is not the first time this has happened, must be overcome by taking even tougher steps by reflecting on the previous case.
"Together we study and study, and then take actions that are deemed necessary and harsh in my opinion so that this does not happen again," he said.
However, he was reluctant to say that the government was said to have conceded the GAPA case again.
On the other hand, he appreciated the steps taken by the government by pulling drugs contaminated with chemical compounds "ethilen glycol/dietylene glycol" (EG/DEG) which exceeded the safe limit.
"In fact, we pay attention to what the government has done by quickly withdrawing drugs that have been circulating in the community," he said.
Thus, he continued, evaluations can be carried out to take more appropriate steps so that similar cases do not happen again in the future.
"For this reason, we use it as an evaluation and then become a measurable and firm action in terms of anticipation so that this does not happen again," he said.
Previously, Monday, February 6, the DKI Health Office reported that there were two findings of cases of acute progressive kidney disorders (GGAPA) in West Jakarta and East Jakarta.
Head of the Surveillance, Epidemiology and Immunization Section of the DKI Health Office, Ngabila Salama, said that from the two findings, one patient was confirmed to have acute kidney problems who eventually died. One other patient is still suspected and is still being treated in one hospital.
As of November 2022, there were 324 cases of acute kidney disorders in Indonesia due to EG/DEG compound contamination in sirop medicinal products. A total of 200 patients were reported to have died and 111 other patients recovered.
It is known, the safe threshold for EG/DEG contamination in the raw material "GPILE glycol" has been set at less than 0.1 percent, while the safe threshold ('tolerable daily intake''/TDI) for EG and DEG contamination on drug mild does not exceed 0.5 mg/kg of body weight per day.
