KUPANG - Kupang City Government, East Nusa Tenggara Province continues to strive to reduce infant mortality and maternal mortality rates during the delivery process by preparing various health facilities as adequate referrals.
"The Kupang City Government is committed to reducing the infant mortality rate (AKB) and maternal mortality (AKI) by continuing to prepare health facilities both in hospitals and health centers," said Acting Kupang Mayor George Melkianus Hadjoh as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, February 6.
He said this was related to the signing of cooperation between regions to support health services in five regencies/cities in NTT, namely Kupang Regency, South Central Timor (TTS), Rote Ndao, Sabu Raijua, and Alor.
The signing was a form of commitment from the five regional heads in supporting the health of the newborn mother and baby and lowering AKB and AKI in NTT Province.
The maternal mortality rate in Kupang City in 2022 was recorded at nine cases out of 7,823 live births, while AKB 56 cases out of 7,823 live births or 716/100,000 live births.
He said delays in decision making, delays in arriving at referrals, and delays in handling were influential factors in the safety of mothers and children in the area.
The Kupang City Government continues to make improvements in health services, including preparing various infrastructures and adequate health facilities, both at the puskesmas and hospitals belonging to the local city government, SK Lerik Hospital.
According to him, the health facilities owned by the Lerik SK Hospital are now complete so they are suitable to be a referral hospital for handling various types of diseases.
"The condition of the Lerik SK Hospital is currently a hospital with adequate facilities and can be used as a referral hospital from other districts for handling various diseases," said George Melkianus Hadjoh.
