BMKG Disrupts The Potential For Extreme Weather In Lombok Until February 12

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning of the potential for extreme weather on February 6-12 2023 in the province of West Nusa Tenggara.

"Be aware of the potential for extreme weather in the NTB area," said Head of the Zaenudin Meteorological Station Abdul Majid, Lombok, Cucu Kusmayancu, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, February 6.

BMKG monitors the development of weather conditions throughout Indonesia currently shows the significance of atmospheric dynamics which has an impact on the potential for increased rainfall in a number of areas in Indonesia.

Atmospheric conditions show several phenomena that support the formation of more intensive rain clouds in the future, including the active condition of Madden Jullian Oscillation (MJO), Rossby Ekuator waves and Kelvin waves in several parts of Indonesia, including the NTB region.

"The still active condition of Monsoon Asia and the slowdown in wind speed (convergence) can maximize the potential growth of rain clouds in NTB in the next few days," he said.

Based on these conditions, BMKG estimates that the potential for rainfall with moderate to moderate intensity can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds for the period 6 to 12 February 2023 in the areas of Mataram City, West Lombok, North Lombok, Central Lombok, East Lombok.

In addition, the potential for extreme weather is predicted to occur in the districts of Sumbawa, West Sumbawa, Bima, Bima City, and Dompu.

"Be aware of the risks of hydrometeorological disasters such as floods, landslides, flash floods, strong winds and tornadoes," he said.
