KPU Plans To Determine The Electoral District In 3 DOB Papua On February 9

The General Election Commission (KPU) will immediately determine the electoral districts (dapil) in the three New Autonomy Regions (DOB) of Papua for the 2024 General Election. The electoral districts include the elections for the DPR, Provincial DPR and DPRD.

Papua Province KPU chairman Diana Simbiak said that her party had submitted the results of public tests to the central KPU on January 31, 2023. Furthermore, he said, a electoral district will be set in three DOBs in Papua on Thursday, February 9, 2023.

According to Diana, his party carried out the first public test in Papua Province on January 17, 2023, then in Papua Mountains Province on January 18, 2023, then in South Papua and Central Papua Provinces on January 19, 2023.

"Meanwhile, for public trials at the Indonesian KPU on January 31, now his party is just waiting to determine the electoral districts in three DOBs in Papua," he said in Jayapura, Papua, Sunday, February 5, as reported by Antara,

He explained that there is a possibility that there will be a change in electoral districts in each division area because it is based on the Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) where the calculation of the electoral district draft is based on the population.

"So that when we conduct public tests we still rely on the Perpu because the number of seats for members of the DPR RI, Provincial DPR and DPRD has been allocated," he said.

He added, from the results of public tests carried out for three days in four provinces on Earth of Cenderawasih, all participants, both from 18 political parties (political parties) participating in the election and all traditional leaders and the community, have agreed.
